Rockin' In The Free World by daj Rockin' In The Free World by daj
I started this one yesterday and ended up working on it until 2:30am... I got so into it I lost track of time. But I eventually got some sleep and finished it up today. It's created entirely in Inkscape, except the circle on the top right and jpeg conversion was done in Photoshop.

The longer I worked on this the harder it was because it was starting to slow Inkscape down. Probably from all the gradients... just about every single shape or line has a gradient fill. Redrawing during zooming was especially slow, though still managable. I added circle in Photoshop to show some of the detail lost in the low-res rasterization.

PS If you can't read the text, that's a "Vector" brand guitar and an "AmpScape" amp ;)

PPS The title alludes to the fact that Inkscape is free and open source, and an absolutely rockin'! :D go to [link] and check it out

Wow... You have an impossible amount of talent... Are you sure you're not some kind of supreme being? Anyway, I'm a big fan of some of your far-reaching icon work, so well done - the level of detail is amazing, the colours make you want to lick it, and the picture is better than real life - I want Inkscape's babies. Now.

Are you kidding me? This is beautiful! As a guitarist I am in full accord with the way you designed the guitar's body. A lot of people - well, the artists I personally know anyway - always fail to capture the curvaceousness of the guitar's body in drawing. You got it just right.

The shiny highlights and gradients on your piece is very appealing. You even hit the highlights of the wooden fretboard nicely! Great work.

yeah, tis a shame. I like to be original, but it's kinda hard when those vans are so hot, and everyone has them

but still, if you draw something inconspicuous on one of the checks, then you are original.:D

A truely amazing piece of vector work.

About the only thing I can offer in way of critique is that the perspective on the amp seems a little off. But even that's minor.

That's really beautiful. I did a pencil sketch of my friend's guitar which has the same colours. I don't really like the shine on the boombox's knobs though... they look strange.

I was considing it... I think what I'll do is fix the image up, clean up the code a bit and then submit it to the open clipart library, possibly as several different files (eg, one for the whole scene, then another for just the guitar, and another for just the amp)

Extremely good, yup.

You could have done all the work in Inkscape, though -- even the circle part. But I guess that the load on the system would have been too great. Surely it does look like a dense image.

In an ideal future (when the SVG renderer supports it) Inkscape will support "outline rendering" -- that is, omit the fills and gradients, thus becoming much faster when it is necessary.

Anyway, as said, good job.

P.S.: Yep, Free, as in Free Speech. I too like that word.
