Artist's Comments

I started this one yesterday and ended up working on it until 2:30am... I got so into it I lost track of time. But I eventually got some sleep and finished it up today. It's created entirely in Inkscape, except the circle on the top right and jpeg conversion was done in Photoshop.

The longer I worked on this the harder it was because it was starting to slow Inkscape down. Probably from all the gradients... just about every single shape or line has a gradient fill. Redrawing during zooming was especially slow, though still managable. I added circle in Photoshop to show some of the detail lost in the low-res rasterization.

PS If you can't read the text, that's a "Vector" brand guitar and an "AmpScape" amp ;)

PPS The title alludes to the fact that Inkscape is free and open source, and an absolutely rockin'! :D go to [link] and check it out

amazing detail here...has an overall nice feeling to it

Extremely good, yup.

You could have done all the work in Inkscape, though -- even the circle part. But I guess that the load on the system would have been too great. Surely it does look like a dense image.

In an ideal future (when the SVG renderer supports it) Inkscape will support "outline rendering" -- that is, omit the fills and gradients, thus becoming much faster when it is necessary.

Anyway, as said, good job.

P.S.: Yep, Free, as in Free Speech. I too like that word.

By the way, will you release the sources for the file?

Simply stunning. Inkscape and I have had battles over less. Much less. Way to go!

Great job, and makes a fine selection of clip-art also, if you want to do that :D

I was considing it... I think what I'll do is fix the image up, clean up the code a bit and then submit it to the open clipart library, possibly as several different files (eg, one for the whole scene, then another for just the guitar, and another for just the amp)

This is way cool, I liked the way you've gotten the gitar's surfaces. :3! Shibby!

That's really beautiful. I did a pencil sketch of my friend's guitar which has the same colours. I don't really like the shine on the boombox's knobs though... they look strange.
